The Tennessee Trip

Last week we had the opportunity to visit our granddaughters. We are always excited to make the trip but decided to do some site seeing along the way. Our trip took us north into Tennessee, passing through Copperhill and McCaysville, two towns divided by a diagonal state line, the old copper mines at Ducktown, a TVA-constructed dam, and the Cherohala Skyway.  After that, it's Chattanooga, Tennessee--which offers great attractions like Rock City and the Lookout Mountain Incline. The only attraction at the upper end of the Lookout Mountain Incline is Point Park, a small portion of the Chickamauga National Park. This park makes a great ride on a Sunday afternoon. The Chattanooga downtown area is also a great place to visit, walk, eat, and enjoy great attractions like the Tennessee Aquarium and the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. We then traveled west across the treacherous stretch of Interstate 24 that passes through Monteagle. It is here that the highway passes over what is colloquially referred to as “The Monteagle Mountain”, a section of the Cumberland Plateau which is a major landmark on the road between Chattanooga and Nashville. In the Jerry Reed song "The Legend", which is the opening track in the film Smokey and the Bandit, Reed tells the story of the Bandit miraculously surviving brake failure on the "Monteagle Grade." There is also a song called "Monteagle Mountain" by Johnny Cash. By the way, I have also visited the grave of Johnny Cash in Nashville, TN.

The Daffodils

Living humbly and aging with joy are desires and, with anticipation, are interwoven.  As I walk around the yard I notice burst of blooms from the daffodils, camellias, crocuses and even the forsythia. Most of my daffodils are the old-fashion type blooming early this year. The cluster of blooms makes them beautiful. The daffodil flowers symbolize friendship and are very popular due to their unmatched beautiful. My daffodils were transplanted from my great-grandmother's farm in north Georgia. Time has flown but what memories.
